What To Expect
The Museum Kimchikan is an immersive cultural space with kimchi as its theme. The museum focuses on the millennium history of kimchi. Through the Joseon Dynasty court recipes, traditional pottery jars, microscopic observation of lactic acid bacteria and other diversified exhibits, it reveals the process of kimchi from a home-cooked dish to a United Nations intangible cultural heritage. Visitors can compare Chinese spicy cabbage, Japanese pickles and other Asian fermented delicacies to deeply understand the uniqueness of Korean kimchi. The museum has a special Korean-English bilingual workshop, where visitors can wear Korean clothes to mix chili sauce by hand, learn traditional pickling techniques, and take their homemade kimchi in sealed jars. Photography enthusiasts should not miss two popular scenes: the giant kimchi jar installation art suspended in the mirror space is like a scene from a science fiction movie, and the 360-degree virtual kimchi cellar can be transformed into the protagonist of "Dae Jang Geum" to take fun photos. The cultural and creative store at the exit is full of ingenuity, from popular science picture books, seasoning sets to kimchi-flavored scented candles, continuing the traditional taste with modern creativity. The Complimentary tasting area on the first floor of the basement allows you to taste the rare kimchi, and with the Insadong Hanok Gallery and tea ceremony experience, you can feel the deep integration of Korean food and art. This museum is not only a historical archive on the tip of your tongue, but also carries the core of the Korean national spirit of "sharing, tenacity, and adapting to nature" with a fermented cabbage.
